Learn defensive driving techniques and how to compensate for age related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. Deck the Stalls @ Save the Horses Dec 8 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm ?Save the Horses, a local nonprofit based in Cumming, GA is inviting the public to Deck the Stalls — horse stalls, that is. Save the Horses (Horse Rescue Retirement & Relief Fund), will host a holiday event Saturday, Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the rescue, which is located at 1768 Newt Green Road, Cumming. The event will offer holiday treats, a petting zoo, sleigh-hay and “reindeer” (pony) rides, games, as well as face painting and other food and craft vendors. Free admission. Free parking. All proceeds go towards the nonprofit, which was founded in 1998. Save the Horse’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home horses that are unwanted, neglected, abused, abandoned or at risk of being slaughtered. They are currently home to 100 rescued horses and mini horses and about 30 other animals that include pigs, sheep, goats, ducks, turkeys, chickens, and a cow named Rosie. Join Gwinnett Library, in partnership with the Atlanta Writers Club, for this Writers’ Workshop with author Phillippe Diederich where he will discuss the value of multi-cultural writing. Phillippe Diederich is the author of Sofrito and Playing for the Devil’s Fire, which was named the 2017 Best Young Adult novel by the Texas Institute of Letters and the 2017 Young Adult Library Services Best Fiction for Young Adults. He has almost 20 years experience as a freelance photographer and writer, and he teaches writing and photography at the college level.
